The Hardware Bit

What does the EveryTone Smart Module Kit consist of:

Electronics  Module;  Rechargable Battery;  Replacement  Control Knobs;  Replacement TRS Jack Socket;  Magic Wheel knob Assembly

Do I need to do any woodwork on my guitar to fit EveryTone?

No. All you need to fit the EveryTone module are  screw-drivers to access your guitar's control cavity, a spanner for the jack-socket  and control knob nuts and a Soldering Iron. You may optionally wish to trim the lengths of some wiring.  If you are at all uncomfortable with installing the hardware yourself, we recommend you use your local Guitar Technician.  Fitting should require approximately an hour's effort, probably less.

What do I need to run the  Guitavatar App?

The Guitavatar App runs on  standard iOS and Android mobile devices. You will require an Internet connection for setting up your account, and to register your EveryTone equipped guitars, and thereafter whenever you wish to backup or download Tone-patches to or from your EveryTone cloud account.

The Serious Bit

What advantages does EveryTone give me while performing?

An EveryTone fitted guitar will provide you with up to 30 different Tone-Patches loaded in the EveryTone module’s memory and available with at worst 2 quick gestures. Moreover you can have  hundreds more  Tone-Patches stored in your App and backed up in your EveryTone Cloud account. You can arrange the Tone-Patches to suit your playing; you could have Tone-Patch 1 for song 1, Patch 2 for song 2 etc, or all your mellow jazz Tone-Patches in the Purple folder, all your country Tone-Patches in the Green folder etc. or whatever best suits your playing. You could even, for example,  have a "Tele" like Tone-Patch and an "Les Paul" like Tone-Patch just one selector switch click apart.

Why is a Tone Patch better than just using the existing selector switch?

A Tone-Patch is equivalent to a snapshot of a ‘mix’ on a recording desk. It holds the exact settings of PickUp Gain, Phase and EQ levels you previously prepared, to be recalled and  used at any time. Moreover, you always have the Master Volume knob and whatever parameters you assigned to the other control knobs at your fingertips on your guitar to adjust mid performance, and because of our unique design, the tone stays consistent regardless of the Master Vol knob setting, a feature impossible to achieve on guitars with passive PickUps.

Why is EveryTone better than my Strat's 5-way selector?

We all know what  5 selections you get are limited to: and none of them let you set the PickUps at anything but full-on, i.e. no mix or blending like on a "G" style guitar. But with EveryTone now you can have  Mid at 65% gain and Bridge at 95 % or 2 Coils full on and one at 50% etc.

Moreover, while you could fit a mechanical phase inversion switch and flip the polarity of one coil with respect to another, i.e.180 Degrees out of phase, you get an All of Nothing effect, which is usually quite thin and tinny. With EveryTone's unique Variable Phase  going anywhere for 30 deg up to 180 deg provides much richer range of tones as there are fewer frequencies cancelled out; results impossible to achieve without EveryTone’s patented technology.

How is EveryTone better than a dual volume pot guitar?

While a one vol control per PickUp, dual pot design like for "G" class guitars lets you adjust  relative gains to create a wide range of tones, have you ever tried to use this during a live performance?!  First, you’ve got to find that ‘mix’ of gains manually in the middle of a live show, then once you get it, well, you’re stuck with that particular volume output level; you have no Master Volume to work with during the performance.

Experienced performing guitarists   continually ‘ride the volume pot’ to track the dynamics of the performance, adjust balance and degree of amp-drive, all on the fly, up for a lead lick, back for rhythm etc.  With a dual volume pot guitar set on a ‘mix', this  inevitably limits what one can do and the player often resorts to using just the one PickUp at a time (hence the “Rhythm/Treble” nomenclature) and so they lose the use of PickUp mixing for live shows altogether. But with EveryTone, any mix of pickup gains can be configured and saved ahead of time and selected on the fly, with that specific tonal blend's overall level adjustable in real-time with EveryTone’s always available Master Vol.

What’s the difference between Active Pickups and EveryTone?

Nothing and Everything !  Active Pickup circuitry puts pre-amps in front of your pickup to provide for more gain and  other features. EveryTone does this too but it takes the Active Pickup topology to its ultimate level by providing a full featured  audio mixer for each coil in each pickup.  So instead of one active pre-amp in front of a Humbucker style pickup, EveryTone provides independent channels for each coil within that humbucker. Now you can achieve tones never heard before, for example humbucking one coil at 100% , the other at 50%  plus say a phase pairing of 30 degrees  etc..

What’s the difference between EveryTone and Line 6 Variax?

Line 6’s Variax  guitars use digital modelling to simulate tones. They have a computer built in where the signals from the strings are digitised and then run through a simulation model. The signals from the strings are merely used as a trigger for pitch and timing. So the resultant tone is only as good as the simulation model itself, where the models represent some ‘typical idea’ of how a particular guitar sounds; a typical ‘Telecaster’ or ‘Les Paul’.  But it does nothing to reproduce the difference in tone between say a Les Paul fitted with a PAF Humbucker  or some third party custom wound PickUp or a P90 or Strat N3’s versus Texas Specials etc etc.

EveryTone is analogue. The tone you hear is your guitar’s very own PickUps, only now mixed and EQ’d with the power of a mixing desk, so all the nuances of your guitar’s own tone comes through.

EveryTone is so flexible and versatile we’ve found it’s possible to set up Tone-Patchs on one guitar  that  sound very much like other popular models. This is not a ‘simulation’ with its limitations, more an ‘emulation’ where you’re still playing your favourite guitar but now it sounds like another model altogether or even like some model that doesn’t exist (until now).  With EveryTone there are no fixed programmed limits or presets you must dial in. Everything is editable so as to maximize your opportunity to explore every tone imaginable from your very own guitar.

What’s the difference between EveryTone and the Ernie Ball Gamechanger?

The Gamechanger design has automated PickUp selectivity and offers a wider variety of permutations than traditional guitars. However, you have to buy that model of Gamechanger guitar, while with EveryTone you upgrade the guitar and PickUps of your choosing at a fraction of the cost. Moreover there are several features that are unique to EveryTone and therefore not available anywhere else.

What's the difference between EveryTone and Boaz One?

The Boaz One achieves tone versatility by physically swapping out  Boaz pickups mounted in a specific assembly. It takes at best 10 seconds to do this versus ~10 milliseconds to flick the selector switch on your EveryTone equipped guitar. Moreover with Boaz you are limited to the tones of the pickups fitted with traditional electrics. Also with a purely mechanical solution there are risks of jamming/wear and tear, long term reliability, issues that don't exist with EveryTone's electronic solution ( no moving parts) . With Boaz you must buy their guitar, with EveryTone you upgrade the guitar  and  pickups  of your choice. However, might well be possible to fit an EveryTone module inside a Boaz One pickup plate!
